Overview

Tamagotchi (たまごっち, Tamagotchi, lit. "Egg Watch") is a keychain-type nurturing game toy that became a social phenomenon in 1997 and has been played by a total of 75 million people worldwide. The name was coined from the words egg (たまご, tamago) and watch (ウオッチ, uotchi), coming from its appearance. In the game the character that grows up changes depending on how you take care of it.
