Kimi ni Todoke is a prize winning manga with two anime adaptations that aired in Japan.

The anime currently has 2 aired seasons and the manga is collected in 13 tankōbon volumes. A live action film was made in 2010, starring Mikako Tabe and Haruma Miura.

Characters

Sawako Kuronuma

Sawako Kuronuma (黒沼爽子) is a shy yet honest girl who is in search of friendship, but her resemblance to horror film character Sadako and Sawako's modesty and her tendency to shy away from correcting people of misconceptions prevent her from doing so, to the point most of the school believed her name was in fact Sadako. Thanks to Kazehaya's kind and open nature, she is able to gradually open up to her classmates, and talk to different people.

Shouta Kazehaya

Shouta Kazehaya (風早翔太) is Sawako's outgoing, popular and friendly classmate, and is Sawako's sweet and friendly friend. Kazehaya has held a long standing interest in Sawako and admits (though not to Sawako) that he likes her (he gets jealous easily), unaware that she feels the same for him.

Ryuu Sanada

Ryuu Sanada (真田龍) is also one of Sawako's new group. He is quiet most of the time and rarely talks, but still can communicate well with Sawako (as they both don't talk much anyways). He is a close childhood friend with Chizuru. He is also good baseball mates with Kazehaya since they both played together in middle school.

Ayane Yano

Ayane Yano (矢野あやね) is a close friend of Sawako. She is the arguably the most mature of the group and she has a boyfriend in college as well as having her ears pierced multiple times. Initially the mangaka conceived of Yano and Yoshida as a pair, and in the first two chapters the two are difficult to tell apart. She then redrafted the characters, combing Yano's hair and styling it in a fashion that looks like a pony-tail.

Chizuru Yoshida

Chizuru Yoshida (吉田千鶴) is another close friend of Sawako. She is the tomboy of the group, and she even admits this when Ryuu calls them brothers, where she argues about who is the older rather than that she is not a 'brother'.

Yuka

Yuka (ユカ) is a classmate that has gossiped about Sawako. Eventually, she ends up bullying her in the school bathroom when Sawako was brave enough to them to tell her that the rumors being spread are fake, which causes an uproar among the students.

Shino

Shino (詩乃): The only link to Sawako's past, Shino was her middle school classmate and the only person who Sawako talks to as the series begins. Shino cares about Sawako and whether she is fitting into high school. She is a cipher, appearing only occasionally as a catalyst for Sawako's interactions with other people. Perhaps for story reasons, Sawako is too modest to consider her as a friend. Shino was the first to call Sawako by her nickname.
