About

Protagonist of the story, captain of the private army Gram Blaze. A boy with golden eyes and long red hair that he wears tied back in a ponytail. He wears red and gold armor with a lion motif over a blue cape and black clothes; on the battlefield he wields a lance with the same colors of his armor and rides a brown horse.

Spouting off fiery lines like "We'll scorch the injustice out of this world!" "I'll show you how hot I can burn!" and so on, Garlot works every day to fix Bronquia's corruption; he hopes to one day create a better world. For the sake of that dream, he and his childhood friends Siskier and Jenon first fight as the Blaze Vigilantes, and later on join hands with the progressive nobleman Landgrave Velleman.

His enemies often call him "Redhead" and Eimi nicknames him "Mister Captain". Garlot calls her "squirt".

At their first meeting, Velleman refers to him as a "young red lion"; later he says that Garlot "fights like a lion, or like the Dragon of Purgatory".

Personality

Garlot was born and raised in the Nether district, the slums of trade capital Tiera.

His mother abandoned him when he was still too young to be self-aware, and ever since then his father abused him. Garlot was exposed to violence on a daily basis; according to Siskier, "Garlot's father covered Garlot in bruises every time he saw him". Garlot was withdrawn and unruly as a young child, and Siskier describes him as having been lonely and violent. Unable to stand idly by, Siskier began to play together with Garlot in an attempt to cheer him up. Her kindness was the first Garlot ever experienced, and this heavily shaped his childhood; even now that they are both teenagers, Garlot adores Siskier like a sister or a mother and clings to her for emotional support.

Garlot is kindhearted and loves his friends deeply; he is also hot-blooded and has an unusually strong sense of justice. He is reckless, quick to anger, impulsive, and very emotional; if someone is suffering right before his eyes he can't help but interfere. Garlot himself admits he's aware that he has trouble regulating his emotions and doesn't know what to do about it.

Due to his father's abuse, Garlot has an all-encompassing desire for the strength to protect himself and his loved ones. His experience of being too powerless to do anything but desperately withstand his own pain leads him to project his younger self onto anyone struggling under oppression, and this is why he reflexively tries to save them.

As Garlot himself was once weak, he is very merciful, and once he knows someone else's pain he'll always empathize with them, even if that someone is his enemy. He is too sensitive to be able to simply accept it as "just the way things are" that he's hurting people for the sake of his own ideals and that even the villains he's killed have loved ones who will mourn them. While his boundless kindness and empathy are his greatest strength, the heavy emotional cost to himself make them his greatest weakness too.

Yet the vast majority of recruitable characters share Garlot's experiences of being harmed by those who should have protected them and being outcast from their own societies, so his empathy has a profound effect on them. This is one of the reasons why Garlot's teammates all adore him, and is one source of his charisma.

Garlot thinks of the weak as deserving protection, but perhaps because of the trauma he's been through, he considers himself an exception, and thinks of himself as worthless if he can't be strong. His double standards mean that he's more desperate for power than anyone else, and being told he's not strong enough or is only borrowing others' power really hurts him.

Relationships

As team leader, Garlot's passion serves as a driving force for his companions. He's adored by both men and women, and while Garlot himself doesn't realize it, he sets romance flags left and right.

Within the members of the party, Garlot is closest to Siskier. Since she saved him when they were kids, he can often be seen leaning on her for support or asking her for advice. As Garlot is easily hurt, he's heavily dependent on Siskier's unconditional support. A lot of his stability hinges on the way she's always there to lift him up when he's sad.

Garlot refers to Jenon as his best friend, but devotes a lot of time making sure Jenon isn't crushed by the weight of his own ego and stopping him from digging his own grave hitting on the girls.

And while Garlot is the most common recipient of Medoute's lectures, he eventually becomes her shoulder to lean on as he grows.

Garlot knows that Jenon has a crush on Siskier and is content to watch over the two of them without interfering, but he is unaware of Siskier's crush on him.

Garlot has complicated feelings towards his employer Velleman. While he admires Velleman's efforts to change the world and sees him as a father figure, he's often hurt by Velleman's coldness and selfishness.

Velleman himself is used to the indirect communication and subterfuge common between nobles and politicians, and so he is portrayed as unsure how best to handle someone as genuine and sensitive as Garlot.

After Garlot rescues Aegina and Luciana they regard him with respect and gratitude, and both are very deferential towards him.

Garlot interacts with Aegina more often than Luciana, who's stuck at the base due to her leg injury. In a soliloquy, Aegina remarks that Garlot's kindness has nearly made her forget about her own cruel fate.

Garlot thinks of Eimi like a little sister he needs to look out for, and when Eimi awakens to the same desire for power he shares, Garlot empathizes with her deeply and treats her on equal terms.

Although Leon first appears as an antagonist, upon learning Leon's circumstances, Garlot remarks "This guy… is probably the same as me. Yeah, he’s been crushed beneath injustice he couldn’t fight just like I was. If I’d taken one wrong step, I would probably be just like he is now…" and begins to care for him.

After a number of trials and tribulations, Garlot and Leon eventually become close friends, and Garlot is able to coax some dere out of our Tsundereon.

And despite how reserved Nessiah is, he takes quite a liking to Garlot, and from the moment he joins the party Nessiah is always at Garlot's side to offer him advice and support him in times of crisis. Their first meeting has a sweet and vaguely suggestive atmosphere.

Garlot has a number of warm exchanges with Nessiah, and remarks at one point that his heart starts pounding when he looks at Nessiah. You don't say.

In one route of the game, Nessiah eventually becomes as dear to Garlot as Siskier... but you deserve to see it for yourself.

Finally, Cerica spends much of the game trying to kill Garlot as revenge because the party killed her commander David at the beginning of the game. While Garlot is annoyed by Cerica stalking him, he also acknowledges that it's only natural for her to hate him, since he killed someone she loved; he is seen worrying about how best to reconcile with Cerica's feelings.

Depending on the player's choices, there's a potential event in the middle of Chapter 5 where Garlot and Cerica get a chance to talk one-on-one and reconcile.

In Combat

Garlot's ATK and GEN are both very high, and his TEC starts to grow dramatically at level 14. His only real weakness is his low LUK. He levels up slowly, but since he's a mandatory unit for virtually every stage, this isn't much of an obstacle in raising him.

Garlot's default final stats are 6/6/5/2, for a total of 19 stars, making him one of the more powerful units in the game.

As a knight-type unit Garlot possesses the unit traits "Advantage on street/bridge terrain" "Disadvantage on forest terrain" and "Weak to Griffon Riders". Thanks to his special class, he also has the extremely useful unit trait "Extra-strong flash attacks".

Garlot does not have any skills that only he can use, but he's capable of using Chariot because he's a knight-type unit, and his powerful flash attacks make him a good match with the skill Vise, which maxes out a whole Union's LUK for the span of a battle.

Spoilers for all routes below.

Don't read the rest of the article unless you've cleared the game.

Spoilers

The two things most important to Garlot are his friends and his ideals, but when the story splits towards the end of the game, Garlot may prioritize one and give up on the other.

During the B route, Luciana's assassination spurs Garlot to abandon Bronquia in order to protect Aegina and help her get revenge.

And during the C route, Garlot abandons Nessiah in order to make sure Bronquia will have a stable future.

However, in the A route, where despite the number of tragedies he faces Garlot seeks the power to both protect his friends and create his ideal world, the story reveals the secrets of his past, and Garlot reclaims his true self.

Yes... Garlot's true identity is actually Gulcasa, who appeared in Yggdra Union. Yeah, we been knew.

It's not formally revealed that Gulcasa and Garlot are one and the same until the middle of the A route, and so this is technically a serious spoiler. The game staff have said that this is the one plot twist they wanted to keep under wraps, but at the same time, they admitted that it was only a matter of time before the fans would figure it out just from looking at the characters' ages and appearances. In fact, most fans had already figured it out before Blaze Union's release.

See Gulcasa's page for his role in the A route.

Sting staff have mentioned in their now-defunct mail magazine that this game's routes and endings have no official good-to-bad ranking; every ending comes with sacrifices, and each is meant to be a valid path for the characters to choose.
