FC3S

Also known in Japan as Savanna RX-7, the FC3S is a second generation RX-7 sports car produced by Mazda. It superseded the first generation SA22C model.

It was released on 1985 with the Series 4 type and later Series 5 type. Development code for this model is P747.


The FC3S uses Mazda's FC Platform, and it featuring revised rear independent suspensions, and replacing recirculating ball steering with rack and pinion steering. As a result the handling of the FC is better than previous the SA22C model.


Some models of FC3S RX-7 has comes with disc brakes as standard.


The Series 5 type was introduced in 1989, with several improvements such as engine power increase, improved suspension system among others.


In Japan, it only available with 1.3 litre turbocharged 2 rotors rotary engine. Outside of Japan, however, it was available with both naturally-aspirated engine and turbocharged rotary engine. Both version of the rotary engines's designation code is 13B.


The engine powers for Series 4 type are 146 PS (143 hp) for naturally-aspirated and 185 PS (182 hp) for Turbocharged engine, while the Series 5 type's engine power are 160 PS (157 hp) for naturally-aspirated and 205 PS (202 hp) for turbocharged engine.


During the production run for the Series 5 FC3S model, Mazda introduced the convertible version. It feature the power-operated, removable soft rooftop.


Production of this model ended in 1991 after Mazda marketed a limited run of 500 'final version' of FC3S convertible model for 1992 for the domestic market only. It was superseded by the FD3S model.
